What is Risk of Ruin?

Risk of Ruin is the probability that you will lose your entire trading account (or hit a drawdown so severe you can't recover) given your current edge and position sizing.

< 1%

Excellent — your account is very safe. Keep doing what you're doing.

1 – 10%

Caution — reduce position size or improve your win rate / R:R.

> 10%

Danger — you're likely to blow up. Lower risk per trade immediately.

Formula: RoR = ((1 − Edge) ÷ (1 + Edge)) ^ (Account ÷ Risk per trade)

The two biggest levers to reduce ruin are: 1) smaller position sizes, and 2) improving your edge (higher win rate or better R:R).
